Neighbors shocked to hear missing Temple friends could be dead

The two were last seen in Temple on Jan. 4. A day or two later, his car turned up in Austin.

TEMPLE, Texas — Police are still waiting for positive ID’s, but they're pretty sure, and so are the parents, that the missing friends from Temple are dead.

Michael Swearingin and Jenna Scott have been missing for more than a week now and Tuesday investigators said they found two bodies in Oklahoma. This is a case that stretches into three states.

The two were last seen in Temple on Jan. 4. A day or two later, his car turned up in Austin.

Swearingin bought a home in Temple last year and neighbors said he was a good guy who didn’t deserve any of this. They are shocked and heartbroken over the news, because that day the two went missing those nearby said they didn’t see or hear anything unusual.

“You can see from here, you know, I can see the backyard and I can see the lights and the back porch and I didn’t see anything or hear anything, and that kind of makes you feel bad,” said Michelle Fleeger, who lives nearby.

Last week, Scott’s ex-boyfriend, Cedric Marks, was arrested in Michigan for breaking into her Temple home months ago. He has not been named a suspect in this disappearance. Her parents said the two had a very bad relationship.

But police are considering him a person of interest in the disappearance of a Minnesota woman in 2009. This other woman is believed to be the mother of one of his children.

Swearingin’s mother said she and the rest of the family are hurting right now, but she wants to thank law enforcement for their hard work in finding both of them.
