KYLE, Texas — This back-to-school season, a Kyle mom gathered up coupons to buy school supplies for her child and more than 100 others.
Amanda Vega, a single mom, transformed her living room into an assembly line for school supplies on Sunday. She’s helping her 9-year-old son get ready for the new school year, but she’s also helping about 130 other children in the process.
"I have their entire school supply list,” said Vega. “I have everything but backpacks."
With the help of friends and family, she filled bags with supplies to give out to families all across Hays County who can't afford them.

"I have two boys, both in elementary school, so getting all their school supplies plus their clothes plus their shoes plus haircuts plus other things they may need,” said Camille Tobias, who helped box school supplies. “It gets pricey,”
“School supply lists get bigger and bigger every year, and I was at one point in my life where I couldn't afford school supplies,” added Vega. “It was overwhelming."
That's why about a month ago she posted on Facebook offering to buy school supplies for mothers in need. She got a big response.
“I've just been using my lunch breaks every day, every day on my lunch break I go coupon for school supplies,” said Vega.
It's starting to add up, you can barely see her bedroom floor. Each bag is personally addressed to a mother in need of a helping hand.
“Everybody falls through tough times,” said Vega. “We have good days and we have bad days … but we get back up. We're mothers, we make things happen."
Vega paid for all of the supplies out of pocket. She plans on personally handing out the school supplies at a big event in Kyle this Saturday.
It will be at 2 p.m. at the Gregg Clarke Park and will include a DJ, photo booth and food.
