AUSTIN — Classes at Travis Early College High School were dismissed early Friday after police said a man shot himself on campus following a nearby disturbance involving a woman.
According to police, the man and woman got into a physical altercation near the high school before the man took off running toward the school, threatening to harm himself. At around 9:45 a.m., police responded and the school was placed on lockdown.
Austin Independent School District said the man shot himself at a practice field on campus. He is reportedly in critical condition at a hospital.
Students are being reunited with their parents and school buses are ready to transport students, AISD's chief of police said. The lockdown has been lifted.
