Man found guilty of capital murder in Austin choir teacher's 2014 death

Shawn Gant-Benalcazar has been found guilty of capital murder in an Austin choir teacher's death.

AUSTIN — Shawn Gant-Benalcazar, a man who was accused of fatally stabbing an Austin choir teacher in 2014, has been found guilty of capital murder.

According to the 331st Criminal District court, he will be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. KVUE's news partners at the Austin American-Statesman said his co-defendant, Timothy Parlin, is also serving life in prison after a jury convicted him of capital murder in May.

This is the second time a jury heard Gant-Benalcazar's case. In April, a judge declared a mistrial in his capital murder trial after 19 hours of deliberation.

Authorities believe Blair was burglarized before she was found dead in her home in December 2014. Gant-Benalcazar and Timothy Parlin were identified as people of interest in her death.
