Man who died in SW Austin auto-motorcycle crash identified

The man who died in an auto-motorcycle collision in SW Austin Thursday has been identified by police. APD said the vehicle that hit the victim failed to yield right of way and added the motorcyclist was not wearing his helmet at the time.

AUSTIN — A motorcyclist in his 20s died Thursday following an auto-motorcycle crash in South West Austin, the Austin Police Department confirmed to KVUE.

APD received the call regarding the collision at 5:39 p.m., and responded to the intersection of Silvermine Drive and TX-71. The victim, identified as 26-year-old Ethan Childress, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police said Childress was traveling westbound on a blue 1999 Yamaha motorcycle when he collided with a grey 2001 Toyota Rav4. The driver of the Rav4 failed to yield right of way while attempting to turn left (southbound to eastbound) out of a private drive, police said.

According to police, Childress was not wearing his helmet when he crashed.

Childress was the only person injured in the crash and treated by EMS, according to officials.

APD confirmed Childress died at the hospital at 6:09 p.m.
