Police identify man killed in South Congress pin-in collision

Medics said the man struck a fixed object. He was declared dead after being transported to the hospital.

AUSTIN, Texas — Police on Friday identified the man killed after a pin-in collision at South Congress Avenue and Cumberland Road on Sunday as Halbert Glen Hendricks, 40.

Austin-Travis County EMS responded around 1:17 p.m. on Sunday. A trauma alert was declared for the man, who was found unconscious in the vehicle. He was transported to St. David's South with critical, life-threatening injuries.

Austin police reported the man died at 2:01 p.m.

According to preliminary investigation, police said Hendricks' 2013 Dodge Ram was traveling eastbound on Cumberland Road when it struck a cement barrier at the T-intersection with South Congress. He was not wearing a seatbelt

This is Austin's 32nd fatal traffic crash this year, resulting in 33 fatalities.
