Leander school’s new scoreboard to debut under Friday night lights

Run by students, the new scoreboard at Leander's Vandegrift High School was funded entirely by corporate sponsors, the school district said.

LEANDER, Texas — This Friday, a Leander school's football team will play its first game under the lights of a new scoreboard.

Vandegrift High School can now show instant replay and cheer on the team at Monroe Stadium with a new sound system, an announcement from the school district said. The system will debut under the Friday night lights on Sept. 7.

Run by students, the system marks Leander Independent School District's third new scoreboard this season. The scoreboards -- funded entirely through corporate sponsors -- feature school-specific logos, an enhanced sound system and instant replay capability, the school said.

“Friday nights are about more than football,” said Leander ISD Superintendent Dan Troxell. “I love seeing our bands, trainers, photographers, dancers and students featured in this way. I cannot thank our sponsors enough for providing this opportunity for students to shine.”
