AUSTIN, Texas — Editor's note: The above video is related to the Watershed Protection Department's clean-up efforts last week.
Over the past few months, the Austin Police Department's RISE Team, along with the City of Austin's Watershed Protection Department and Austin-Travis County EMS community paramedics, have been cleaning up several homeless camps around Austin.
One of the clean-up efforts has been at tunnels near East Riverside Drive at Willow Creek Drive.
On Friday, APD provided an update on the results of those clean-ups.
APD said ATCEMS community paramedics logged 31 interventions, including Medical Access Program (MAP) applications, dental appointments, vision services, distributing prescriptions and mental health services.
APD also said the department has made eight arrests for trespassing in the tunnel after giving several months of warnings.
And APD said that Watershed Protection advised that on the first day of tunnel clean-up, they removed over 3,000 pounds of trash from the creek. The final total from both days of clean-up is still pending.
