H-E-B celebrating 80 years in Austin with Birthday Bash celebration at Long Center

You can celebrate H-E-B's 80th Austin birthday on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

AUSTIN — Texas' favorite grocery store chain H-E-B is celebrating its 80th year serving Austin with a Birthday Bash celebration at the Long Center on Wednesday.

H-E-B is inviting everyone to come celebrate the milestone with a free showcase of local food truck offerings, activities, entertainment, historical photos, a donut wall and birthday cake.

“We are grateful to decades of Austinites for allowing us the privilege of being their neighbor for so many momentous years,” said Jeff Thomas, senior vice president and general manager of H-E-B Central Texas Region. “We have grown with this community and worked together to create a place we are all proud to call home.”

Austin-area foodie wins GRAND PRIZE in H-E-B's 'Primo Picks' competition

H-E-B purchased and opened its first stores in downtown Austin on Sept. 5, 1938. Over the past 80 years, the retailer has added 24 locations in the Austin area.

The food trucks will include:

  • Mmmpanadas (H-E-B Quest for Texas Best 2018 Grand Prize Winner)
  • Teo Gelato (H-E-B Quest for Texas Best 2015 Grand Prize Winner)
  • Texas Pie Company (H-E-B Quest for Texas Best 2016 Grand Prize Winner)

  • H-E-B’s Fork in the Road
  • Vega Mobile Tour
  • Buddah's Brew
  • Live Soda
  • Lantana Hummus
  • Oatmega
  • Texas Tea
  • Austinuts.

The event will be held at the H-E-B Terrace at the Long Center from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
