AUSTIN, Texas — A house fire in Central Austin on Saturday night was likely caused by wiring issues in the attic, although the official cause is still undetermined.
Crews with the Austin Fire Department responded to the blaze at 45 1/2 Street and Red River Street.
The single-family home had “significant fire involvement on arrival,” Austin Fire Info said.
Firefighters said the homeowner had been accounted for out of state and was now displaced by the fire.
The fire had gone into "defensive mode," with fire showing through the roof. The fire was heavily involved in the attic, the Austin Fire Department said.
One firefighter was briefly hospitalized for heat-related issues. He was treated and released overnight.
Firefighters remained on the scene overnight to dampen down hot spots in areas of collapse.
