Fire reported at McCallum High School in North Austin for second day in row

For the second day in a row, a fire was reported a McCallum High School in North Austin, Austin Fire officials said.

A stage curtain caught fire at McCallum High School for the second day in a row.

AUSTIN — For the second day in a row, a curtain caught fire at McCallum High School's Fine Arts Center, according to the Austin Fire Department.

On Oct. 22, firefighters were called to McCallum High due to a stage curtain that caught fire because it was laying across stage lighting. The school is located at 5600 Sunshine Drive off of Koenig Lane.

Austin Fire said between 40 to 50 students were inside the room when the fire started, but a fast-acting student used a fire extinguisher to put it out. One student was evaluated by medics, but did not need to go to a hospital, Austin Fire said.

On the morning of Oct. 23, Austin Fire said another stage curtain caught fire. Firefighters were able to put out the fire and were working on clearing the smoke from McCallum's Fine Arts Center. No injuries were reported in this fire and classes will not be affected, officials said.
