Elgin Police Department mourns loss of fallen officer

The Elgin Police Department is mourning the loss of own of their own.

ELGIN — The Elgin Police Department is mourning the loss of own of their own.

Officer William "Bill" Silva, 69, died Tuesday after suffering a heart attack while on duty at Elgin Middle School, EPD said.

Silva had been working with EPD since 2003 and was the School Resource Officer for the Elgin School District. Silva also served in the United States Navy and graduated from the University of Texas.

"Officer Silva’s death is a tragic loss to his family, our department, and our community. EPD is asking everyone to please allow his family the time and privacy they need to mourn their loss." EPD said in a statement Thursday.

Silva's visitation will be Sunday at the Elgin Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. His funeral service will be Monday at the Lost Pines Cowboy Church at 11 a.m.
