Dockless bikes and scooters to have designated drop off at Austin City Limits Music Festival

If you're planning on riding a dockless scooter or bike to the ACL Music Festival, here's what you need to know.

AUSTIN — The Austin City Limits Music Festival will be welcoming dockless mobility this year. The city partnered with dockless companies on finding a way to minimize traffic and improve safety for those who enter the festival on those bikes and scooters.

According to this map, there are two locations to drop them off. One is near the corner of Sterzing Street and Toomey Road, and the other is just off Azie Morton Road.

These areas are for drop off only and there will be attendants to collect them in order before being picked up at the end of the night. The units will be unavailable to people at night in order to prevent congestion on the roads at the end of each day. They're also not allowed on trails or at the event entrance.

"We use them pretty often whenever I’m in the downtown area especially – it’s extremely convenient – or on a weekend honestly," said Zack Haligman, an Austin resident who plans to ride the scooters to the festival with his friends. "I think the scooters can alleviate the traffic a little bit. It’d be nice to see them hopefully drop off a little extra because I think people are accustomed to using these now in the city and they’re probably getting ready to use them for the festival."

He said he thinks other people are nervous about the dockless mobility being used because of alcohol consumption before the festival.

“Definitely a little concerned, you know, festival goers might be drinking," said Haligman.

Andrew Ortiz, a charger for Bird who helps collect the scooters, said this will help with the traffic at the festival.

“It will cut back on congestion with cars because, you know, they can park farther away, get a scooter, and ride it in there. You know, less traffic with vehicles trying to maneuver around in there," said Ortiz.
