Demand for Texas Longhorns tickets way up compared to last year, report says

University of Texas' Longhorns fans are going to have to pay a lot more to see a game this upcoming football season.

AUSTIN — Football season could be more expensive than last year for Longhorns fans as new numbers from StubHub show some fans are willing to pay big bucks to see a single game at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium this fall.

College football season is a little more than two weeks away, and StubHub gave everyone a taste of what's to come with a season preview based on current sales. People in the state of Texas purchase more college football tickets than any other state -- nearly 50 percent more than the second top-purchasing state, Florida.

University of Texas at Austin ranked ninth on StubHub's list of the top 10 most in-demand teams. That's a 204 percent jump compared to UT's ranking last year in the 20 spot. Their most in-demand games are currently against University of Southern California at $290, Texas Christian University at $131 and Baylor University at $108.

UT's most affordable game is currently the team's home opener against the University of Tulsa on Sept. 8, going for $74. The Red River Showdown against Oklahoma is in higher demand this year, as it's already StubHub's fifth most in-demand game in Texas. The average ticket price is about $226.

The top selling game in Texas doesn't actually involve a Texas school. The season opening matchup of Louisiana State University and Miami University at AT&T Stadium sold the most tickets, with the average price coming it at around $226.

While Texas and TCU rank in the top 10 most in-demand teams overall, Texas A&M University actually ended up as the best-selling team in Texas.
