AUSTIN, Texas — The City of San Marcos will offer residents rebates for reducing water use, giving an incentive to replace grass lawns with turf or gravel.
The program, which is funded via monthly water fees, will offer up to half of the project cost, ranging from $0.50 to $2 per square foot converted, depending on material.
Residents must follow certain guidelines for each project to quality for the rebate.
According to an application on the City of San Marcos website, pre-approval is required to qualify.
Residents must submit photos of the lawn area to be converted, along with a layout or diagram of proposed installation.
Work can be performed by residents themselves or hired contractors, and photos must be taken of each step, the City said.
After a review of the project, a rebate will be issued as a credit on the customer’s utility bill.
