Charlotte woman dies after skydiving accident in SC, officials confirm

The victim was identified as Amie Jessica Begg. She was an employee at Skydive Carolina.

CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. — A Charlotte woman was killed in a skydiving accident in Chester County Sunday, officials said.

Emergency crews were called to a "hard landing" at the Skydive Carolina facility on King Air Drive in Chester around 2:30 p.m.

The 33-year-old woman was pronounced dead at 2:53 p.m., according to the Chester Coroner's Office. The victim was identified as Amie Jessica Begg. She was an employee at Skydive Carolina.

The Federal Aviation Administration may get involved in the investigation. In a statement, an FAA spokesperson said the FAA's role in skydiving accidents is limited to inspecting the parachute.

Skydive Carolina said the woman was a “highly experienced skydiver” with more than 800 previous skydives. Skydive Carolina officials say the skydiver was attempting an advanced landing maneuver when she was injured in the landing process.

Officials say the parachute deployed and was working correctly.

Skydive Carolina released a statement saying, “The Skydive Carolina community is in shock and mourns the loss of a fellow jumper who was a positive light to all.”

Last year at Skydive CarolinaFest, a 68-year-old woman with more than 15,000 successful skydives died after a malfunction in the air. In 2016, tragedy struck again at the fest when a 32-year-old man died after crashing into another diver mid-air.
