CEDAR PARK, Texas — Homeowners in Cedar Park will get a bit of a break on their property taxes -- but not as big of a break as they hoped for.
The city announced Thursday it made a mistake in April when it tried to set the homestead exemption at $10,000.
The city consulted with the state attorney general's office, which issued an opinion that the city doesn't have the authority to give homeowners that big of a tax break.
So, the city dropped the exemption down to $5,000, in accordance with state law.
