Officials identify swimmer who died at Pace Bend Park

The swimmer went missing near the Thurman Cove area of Lake Travis on Saturday afternoon.

TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas — Travis County Sheriff's Office recovery units have located a body in the search for a swimmer who went missing at Pace Bend Park on Saturday afternoon.

On Tuesday, he was identified as 22-year-old Akeem Albert Cameron of Fort Bragg, N.C.

According to Austin-Travis County EMS, medics received a call around 1:15 p.m. about an adult swimmer who had gone underwater and had not resurfaced. Medics began searching in the Thurman Cove area, where the man was last seen.

STAR Flight and the Pedernales Fire Department assisted in the search, ATCEMS said. The search was switched to "recovery mode" just before 2 p.m., medics said.

According to the Pedernales Fire Department, fire crews cleared the area around 3 p.m. Dive team units recovered the man's body around 5:45 p.m. on Saturday.

Detectives are investigating the incident and his cause and manner of death will be determined by the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office.

Cameron is the third person to die in Lake Travis so far this year. John Petrone died on June 17 after going missing in the Rough Hollow area. Sebastian Medina-Page died on Feb. 21 in the Hurst Creek Arm area while trying to repair a broken pump at a private residence.
