The Burnet County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a body was found inside a burned vehicle Monday evening.

According to the sheriff’s office, a vehicle fire was reported along the 3800 block of County Road 202 shortly before 8 p.m. Monday. The location of the call was near Lake Victor and north-northeast of Burnet. Sheriff’s deputies, fire department personnel and EMS responded and found the vehicle engulfed in flames.

Justice of the Peace Lisa Whitehead pronounced the body deceased and an autopsy has been ordered. The Travis County Medical Examiner’s office will conduct the autopsy, the sheriff’s office said. The release added the identity of the person is not known, but it is believed to be a man who died in the fire.

“Anytime there are unanswered questions surrounding a death, the investigation remains as suspicious until Investigators can determine the actual events,” Burnet County Sheriff W.T. Smith said in the release.

Chief Deputy Joey Canady said the Texas Rangers and State Fire Marshal's Office are assisting with the investigation.
