Texas Longhorns commemorate Black History Month with 'History Makers' T-shirts

The shirts will feature a special "History Makers" mark, designed to honor Texas' first Black student-athletes.

AUSTIN, Texas — To commemorate Black History Month, Texas Longhorns student-athletes will wear Nike warmup T-shirts at select events in February 2020. 

According to Texas Athletics, the shirts will feature a special "History Makers" mark, designed to honor Texas' first Black student-athletes.

UT said a limited supply of fan T-shirts will be given away at the men's basketball, women's basketball and softball games.

Here are the Black History Month commemorative UT games: 

  • Men's Basketball vs. Texas Tech – Saturday, Feb. 8
  • Women's Basketball vs. Iowa State – Wednesday, Feb. 12
  • Baseball vs. Boise State – Saturday, Feb. 22 
  • Softball vs. Louisiana – Tuesday, Feb. 25

The T-shirts will also be available for purchase online. Proceeds made from T-shirt sales will go toward Division of Diversity and Community Engagement initiatives at the University of Texas, according to UT.

Texas said it would also supplement the T-shirt celebration with other in-game elements, community outreach efforts, social media content, and other activities throughout February to celebrate Black History Month
