Austin SWAT responds to barricaded subject call on Airport Boulevard

Police were on scene at the 4400 block of Airport Blvd. Avoid the area.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department's SWAT team responded to a barricaded subject call Thursday evening in East Austin.

Police were on scene on the 4400 block of Airport Blvd. The public is asked to avoid the area and nearby apartments have been evacuated.

In a press conference Thursday evening, police said around 7 p.m. that officers had located a subject with several, violent, felony warrants

Police said that as they were observing the suspect, he got into a vehicle with another subject, so they followed and attempted a vehicle containment. However, both were able to evade.

Officers then continued to follow the vehicle until it stopped at the Urban Villas apartment homes. Both subjects evaded on foot and forcibly made their way through an apartment.

Officers set up a perimeter and gave commands for both to come outside. The primary subject eventually surrendered without incident. As of the press briefing, police had not made contact with the second. Police said it is unknown if he is still inside.

SWAT members and hostage negotiators remain on scene.

The remaining suspect is described as a Hispanic male, clean shaven with short hair and multiple tattoos on his arms. He is believed to be armed and dangerous.
