AUSTIN, Texas — A man with felony warrants out of Hays County was arrested after a SWAT situation in South Austin Thursday afternoon, police said.

Police made a "warrant service call" at 10:59 a.m Thursday to the 1800 block at of E. Stassney Lane. South Austin apartment complex, Stassney Woods, just east of Interstate 35 is located at that address.

Police said they were attempting to detain 27-year-old Luis Ernesto Aguilera-Pantoja, who was wanted for three felony warrants out of Hays County. Aguilera-Pantoja was wanted on two warrants of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one warrant for deadly conduct -- discharge of a firearm.

APD said after officers tried to detain Aguilera-Pantoja, he barricaded himself in his apartment and was considered armed and dangerous. Officers were at the apartment complex for nearly three hours before requesting help from SWAT units. The intersection of Stassney Lane and Interstate 35 was blocked off during this time period to secure a safe perimeter, police said.

Officers believed Aguilera-Pantoja had weapons in his apartment such as rifles, shotguns, and handguns, police said in a Thursday press briefing.

SWAT attempted to use a hostage negotiator to attempt to take Aguilera-Pantoja without incident to no avail, APD said. SWAT officers entered the apartment at 2:15 p.m. to take Aguilera-Pantoja into custody. Aguilera-Pantoja had barricaded himself in the bedroom with furniture propped up to prevent the department's robot from entering the room to provide visuals of him, police said. SWAT officers then made a forced entry into the bedroom and took Aguilera-Pantoja into custody. APD said the suspect was not injured, nor were any officers injured in the incident.
