Austin police warn about lethal batch of narcotics after overdose death

Police said three overdose patients were taken to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas on Saturday morning.

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin police said Monday that it is expected to take approximately 90 days for lab tests to determine the makeup of the potentially lethal batch of narcotics sold in the Austin area that lead to one person's death.

Police said Saturday that three overdose patients were taken to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas that morning. One of those patients died.

On Monday, police said the APD Homicide Unit is actively investigating the death and is working to gather information from the other two patients. Police do not have an update on their conditions at this time and said there is no other information to release.

The drug is known by various street names such as Molly, X and ecstasy, police said.
