Man arrested in connection with July homicide on North Lamar

The incident happened near the intersection of West Rundberg Lane and North Lamar Boulevard.

AUSTIN, Texas — What began as an argument between two men on Saturday, July 9, escalated into a shooting that left one man dead on North Lamar Boulevard, according to police.

The Austin Police Department got a call around 7:22 a.m. on July 9 about a shooting in the 9900 block of the boulevard at a tent in a field behind the InTown Suites. When officers arrived, they found a man – later identified as 38-year-old Michael Richardson – with several gunshot wounds. 

Richardson died at the scene at 7:44 a.m. despite receiving CPR from EMS.

On Aug. 3, the APD announced that 21-year-old Cesar Lopez was arrested on July 28 on a warrant for first-degree murder in connection with Richardson's death. 

APD said this was Austin's 38th homicide of the year. As of Aug. 3, the city has had 44 homicides in 2022.
