Another customer tests positive for norovirus; official links illness to La Margarita employee

The relative of a La Margarita employee who handled food at the Round Rock High School baseball banquet was diagnosed with viral gastroenteritis, an official confirmed.

ROUND ROCK, Texas -- After multiple people were diagnosed with norovirus following a Round Rock baseball banquet, the Williamson County health department is reporting that a family member of one of the restaurant's employees was ill with gastrointestinal symptoms the day of the event.

John Teel, the executive director for the Williamson County and Cities Health District confirmed to KVUE that the La Margarita employee handled the food at the banquet. Teel also confirmed to KVUE that another stool sample from a patron who ate at La Margarita on May 1 came back positive for norovirus.

La Margarita in Round Rock catered the Round Rock High School baseball banquet on April 30 at The Milestone events venue in Georgetown. Of the 220 people who attended the event, about 110 of them complained of sickness in the following days.

After the event, the restaurant closed for a deep cleaning before opening again.
