AUSTIN, Texas — A man has been arrested for allegedly burglarizing a Kendra Scott store in Austin.
Security cameras caught a man, later identified as 44-year-old Raymond Hernandez, ransacking Kendra Scott's flagship store on South Congress Avenue.
The smash-and-grab happened at about 3:40 a.m. on April 2, police said.
According to an affidavit, the burglar made his way into the store by shattering a glass door with a hammer. He stole several thousand dollars worth of jewelry, according to police.
After the incident, police released the surveillance video of the burglary, and Kendra Scott offered a $10,000 award for any information leading up to an arrest.
On April 3, two tipsters came forward and identified the burglar as Hernandez. The tipsters reportedly told police Hernandez admitted that he had burglarized a Kendra Scott store. One of the tipsters reportedly bought a Kendra Scott ring from Hernandez earlier that day as well, the affidavit said.
The tipsters were able to identify the burglar in the surveillance video as Hernandez because of the tattoo on his neck, police said.

On April 4, another tipster came forward and identified Hendandez as the burglar. This tipster told police Hernandez owed a debt and offered to make his payment by giving the tipster four rings instead of cash. The tipster showed police the four rings and police said they were from Kendra Scott.
According to the affidavit, police compared photos of Hernandez to surveillance video and said “both men possess the same physical characteristics."
Hernandez was booked into the Travis County Jail on April 15. His bond has been set at $70,000.
Kendra Scott released the following statement after the burglary:
"Austin is our heart and home and our Flagship store honors those roots. It is with a heavy heart this evening that we alert our community that an intruder broke into this property and removed thousands of dollars of precious merchandise around 3:40am this morning. Our culture of giving back is a core value of ours and when we are robbed of our merchandise this also robs the proceeds of the impactful causes in our community we are committed to supporting. We are offering a $10,000 cash reward to the person who offers up information leading to the arrest of this individual. We are working closely with APD and kindly ask the Austin community to call them directly with any details leading to the identity of the intruder. As a result and taking effect immediately, new security measures have been implemented company-wide to ensure our properties are safely protected."
