Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccines to resume at Summit County Fairgrounds mass vaccination clinic

Appointments can be made for the Summit County mass vaccination site by using Ohio's 'Get the Shot' registration portal.

TALLMADGE, Ohio — After Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccines were temporarily halted this month due to rare blood clotting concerns, the single-dose shots will be given once again at the Summit County Fairgrounds mass vaccination site starting Saturday, May 1. The decision comes after federal health officials lifted their recommended pause of the vaccine last Friday.

This update comes just days after Summit County health officials announced they were canceling the mass vaccination clinic at the fairgrounds for April 27 due to “decreased demand.”

Summit County residents who are at least 18 years old can begin signing up for vaccine appointments starting today using the state’s “Get the Shot” registration portal HERE. To find available appointments for Johnson & Johnson vaccine at the fairgrounds, use this address: 1050 North Avenue in Tallmadge. If you don't see any results upon your search, that means no more appointments are currently available at this specific vaccination site -- but keep checking back frequently as more slots are added.

Health Commissioner Donna Skoda said the actions taken to pause and study the vaccines further were appropriate.

“This is public health at work,” she said in a press release. “We have a responsibility to make sure the science is sound, so that people have confidence in the J&J and all vaccines.”
