WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas — Local school districts are teaming up to make sure health care professionals have the supplies they need during this coronavirus outbreak.
Williamson County said it reached out to school districts willing to provide essential medical supplies to the county's first responders, and three school districts answered the call.
The Round Rock, Georgetown and Hutto school districts were able to provide gloves, masks, gowns and other protective gear.
The county said the need for personal protective equipment has increased since the outbreak began.
On Tuesday, Gov. Abbott said the State ordered more than $80 million worth of supplies for medical professionals.
The KVUE Defenders learned that hospitals needing supplies have to submit a State of Texas Assistance Request (STAR), according to a spokesperson for the governor's office. The governor's new Supply Chain Strike Force then tracks those requests and total numbers on supply needs.
