List: Central Texas schools remain closed during coronavirus pandemic

Here's a comprehensive list of all the Central Texas school districts that remain closed due to COVID-19.

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas — Editor's note: This blog is no longer updating. As of March 19, Gov. Greg Abbott signed an executive order ceasing in-person instruction at schools.

As coronavirus cases continue to grow in Austin-Travis County, Central Texas schools are canceling classes in order to prevent the possible spread of the virus.

Here's a list of what some Central Texas schools are doing.

NOTE: On Tuesday, Williamson County school districts held a press conference to address school closures, remote instruction, feeding students and more. While some districts are still working on their plans, they said they would be providing updates on their district websites. You can listen to the conference here.

Austin ISD

The Austin Independent School District is canceling classes from Monday, March 23, through Friday, April 3. This comes after the district canceled class on Friday, March 13, after officials confirmed the first coronavirus case in the Austin area.

Bastrop County

Bastrop County school districts including Bastrop, Elgin, McDade and Smithville, are suspending normal school operations from Monday, March 23, through Sunday, April 5. 

Students and staff should not return to school until they are notified. During this time, all Bastrop ISD facilities will be closed until further notice, including UIL events, all extracurricular practices and competitions, rentals, field trips, childcare programs, after-school programs and other campus activities.

Blanco ISD

Closed until April 3.

Burnet CISD

Closed until April 3.

Caldwell ISD

Closed through April 3.

Coupland ISD

Closed until at least March 20.

Del Valle ISD

Del Valle schools will be closed for two weeks following spring break. Campuses will be closed from March 23 through April 5.

"Del Valle ISD will follow an Alternate Learning Plan. For the week of March 23, all students will use paper lessons that were provided on the Friday before Spring Break. Additional materials and instructions for E-learning will be communicated to all families by Thursday, March 26."

Dime Box ISD

The school district will be closed through March 20.

Dripping Springs ISD

The district is closing its schools from Monday, March 23, to Friday, April 3. During this period of time, all Dripping Springs ISD facilities will be closed for instruction and for all events, including UIL, athletic and field trip events.

Eanes ISD

To slow the spread of COVID-19, the district is suspending its normal operations from Monday, March 23, through Sunday, April 5. During this time, all Eanes ISD activities will be closed for instruction and events.

“We are in unprecedented territory in an extraordinarily challenging time, but we will do everything we can to protect our students and staff and navigate a new world of providing education and resources to our students remotely,” said Dr. Leonard. “This closure provides time to assess the situation, respond to ever-changing developments and evaluate the approach for the coming weeks.”

Elgin ISD

Closed until April 5.

Fayetteville ISD

Closed until March 27.

Flatonia ISD

Closed until March 27.

Florence ISD

Closed until April 3.

Fredericksburg ISD

Suspends face-to-face schools until April 3.

Georgetown ISD

Georgetown ISD is halting normal operations for two weeks following spring break. It will close campus operations through April 3 and GISD facilities will re-open on April 6.

All Georgetown ISD facilities will be closed for instruction during this time as well as all other purposes including UIL Events, athletics practices, facility rentals, field trips, etc.

The district is working on continuity plans for learning, business operations and other means of meeting student needs, including meal services for students. GISD will be releasing those details on Tuesday.

Giddings ISD

Giddings ISD will move to home-based and remote instruction on March 23 for an indefinite amount of time.

Goodwater Montessori Schools

Closed until April 6. 

Granger ISD

Closed until April 3.

Hays CISD

The district is suspending normal operations through Sunday, April 5. On that day, district leaders will determine the next steps. For now, all in-person classes and activities are canceled through that date.

Harper ISD

Closed until April 3.

Hutto ISD

The Hutto Independent School District is suspending normal school operations through April 3, with students scheduled to return to school on April 6. 

The closure also includes UIL events, athletics, rentals, field trips and after-school activities.

Jarrell ISD

Closed until April 6

Johnson City ISD 

Closed until April 3.

La Grange ISD

Closed until at least March 20.

Lake Travis ISD

Closed until April 5.

Lago Vista ISD

Closed until April 3.

Leander ISD

Closed until April 5.

Lee County Schools

All Lee County Schools will be closing instructional facilities. Instruction will be moved to home-based and remote settings beginning (or continuing) on Monday, March 23, and will continue indefinitely.  

Liberty Hill ISD

Closed until April 3.

Llano ISD

Closed until April 4.

Lockhart ISD

Lockhart ISD is suspending normal school operations beyond spring break at least through Friday, April 3.

LISD has made arrangements to distribute "Grab & Go" curbside pick-up meals during the weeks of March 23 through 27 and March 30 through April 3. Each campus will have child nutrition staff standing outside with a Grab & Go breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The district will send out maps for food pick-up sites in an email later this week. Parents and guardians will be able to drive up to the sites and staff will hand them the meals through the car window.

Luling ISD

Closed indefinitely.

Manor ISD

Closed until March 30.

Marble Falls ISD

Closed until March 29 with an update on March 26. 

Mason ISD

Closed until April 6.

McDade ISD

Closed until April 6.

Pflugerville ISD

The Pflugerville Independent School District is canceling classes from Monday, March 23 to Friday, March 27.

"This is a very fluid situation, and we are receiving continuous updates from health authorities," the district said on March 16. "Additional school closures after March 27 have not been decided at this time, but we will inform parents as soon as any decisions are made. As we learn more from our governing agencies, we will also share more information regarding student meal offerings during the closure, instructional support for students at home, state testing, and a variety of other topics."

Prairie Lea ISD

Closed until April 5.

Round Rock ISD

The district announced on March 16 it is suspending normal school operations through at least April 3. Round Rock ISD will be closed for instruction and other purposes, such as UIL events, athletics, field trips and other campus activities.

Round Top-Carmine ISD

Closed until March 27.

San Marcos CISD

San Marcos CISD is suspending normal school operations through April 5. As of March 16, the district was finalizing logistics on distance learning options for students and said more information and guidance will be made available on the district's website this week, as well as messaged to SMCISD families.

The district will be offering free curbside breakfast from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Travis Elementary School and San Marcos High School and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at those schools and Redwood Baptist Church.

Schulenburg ISD

Closed until March 27.

Smithville ISD

Closed until April 3.

Taylor ISD

Taylor ISD will be suspending normal operations through April 3. Students will return to school on April 6.  

There will be a press conference Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Williamson County Courthouse that will address the county-wide and district services that will be available during this time.  

All facilities will be closed for instruction, including UIL events, athletics, rentals, field trips and after-school events during this period.

Thrall ISD

Closed until April 3.

Wimberley ISD

The Wimberley Independent School District is extending its spring break for two weeks. Its schools will be closed from March 30 through April 3.

"During Spring Break WISD administrators will finalize plans for other considerations during this closure, such as alternate learning opportunities and providing meals to students who receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch," the district said. "Details regarding online learning and the distribution of educational materials and meals will be emailed to parents and guardians via the email address listed on file in Skyward Family Access by Thursday, March 19."
