Coronavirus updates in Central Texas: What to know Saturday

Here are the latest COVID-19 updates, closures and postponements in Central Texas for Saturday, May 8.

COVID-19 numbers:

  • Texas: More than 2.4 million cases have been reported in the state, and more than 49,500 people in Texas have died, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.
  • Central Texas counties: 
    • Travis County: At least 82,882 cases have been reported and at least 858 people have died. At least 81,249 people have recovered from the virus.
    • Hays County: At least 18,561 confirmed cases have been reported and at least 240 people have died. At least 17,777 people have recovered from the virus.
    • Williamson County: At least 39,120 cases have been reported in the county and at least 466 people have died.

Updates:

5:50 p.m. – Travis County reported 67 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Saturday, bringing the total to 82,882 cases and 858 deaths since the start of the pandemic. At least 81,249 people have recovered from the virus.

Travis County currently has 104 people hospitalized with COVID-19, with 36 in the ICU and 19 on ventilators.

8 a.m. – First doses of the COVID-19 vaccine are available at the Travis County Expo Center, located at 7311 Decker Lane, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you received your first dose at the Circuit of the Americas about four weeks ago, you're encouraged to come to the expo center on Saturday for your second shot.
