Austin ISD adopts new school bus cleaning practices amid coronavirus concerns

The school district has purchased DIS.IN.FX Antimicrobial Services to help treat vehicles.

AUSTIN, Texas — Amid concerns of coronavirus and the ongoing flu season, Austin ISD has adopted new cleaning practices for all of its vehicles – including school buses.

Those cleanings will take place sometime next week, the school district told KVUE.

"We think it's the right thing to do to keep our students and employees safe," said Kris Hafezizadeh, AISD executive director of transportation and vehicles. "We have decided, as a district, to be proactive. Not only in our schools but also in our school buses and all other vehicles."

According to a memo sent to employees by the district's Department of Transportation and Vehicle Services, AISD has purchased DIS.IN.FX Antimicrobial Services to use at all of its bases and on school buses, maintenance and police vehicles.

This process combines fogging, spraying and misting technologies that treat with a blend of high-powered disinfectants, cleaners and RAZOR Antimicrobial Coating. The district will be using a device to spray the product in addition to using its current cleaning process.

"It's supposed to stay on the surface anywhere from 30 to 90 days. To spray All vehicles and buses, we'll do it every 60 days," said Hafezizadeh. "It's an additional and preventative measure."
