Behind the scenes with Daniel Rowan of 'Hedwig and the Angry Inch'

"Hedwig and the Angry Inch" continues its run at the Zach Topfer Theatre through March 3.

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin just got a lot fiercer.

Throughout the month of February, "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" has been taking audiences at the Zach Theatre by storm.

Created by John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask, the Tony Award-winning musical tells the story of an "internationally ignored song stylist" named Hedwig Schmidt. Often smashing the fourth wall to interact with the audience, Hedwig is an East German rock 'n' roll goddess who also happens to be the victim of a botched sex-change operation – hence the angry inch.

Hedwig later travels to America, where she shares her story backed by her rock band, "The Angry Inch," for a show that's a half rock gig, half stand-up comedy event for anyone who has felt life has "given them an inch when they deserve a mile."

"Hedwig and the Angry Inch" stars Daniel Rowan, and Leslie McDonel as Yitzhak. Meanwhile, "The Band" consists of Luke Linsteadt on guitar and keys, Chris Tondre on guitar, Beau Moore on bass, and Harrell Williams Jr. on percussion.

There's still time to catch what Time Magazine calls “the most exciting rock score written for the theatre since, oh, ever.” The show runs from Jan. 23 to Mar 3.
