Trial date set for man accused of kidnapping Round Rock girls

Terry Miles, who remains in custody, is accused of kidnapping two girls in Round Rock this January after their mother was found dead in the home they shared.

ROUND ROCK, Texas — A federal judge has set a trial date for early next year for a man accused of kidnapping two girls in January after their mother was found dead at her Round Rock home.

Terry Miles, who remains in jail, will face a jury beginning Jan. 28.

Miles is accused of kidnapping the girls, ages seven and 14, and taking them to Colorado, where they were found uninjured in January.

Police began searching for the girls after their mother, Tonya Bates, failed to show up for work and police found her body Dec. 30 in her home.

Miles and Bates were roommates. He has said that he did not kill her.

No one has been charged in Bates' death. Round Rock police said Wednesday that they are still investigating.

Terry Allen Miles.
