SAN MARCOS, Texas — The San Marcos Police Department is clearing up some misinformation shared on social media after two separate car chases overnight.
"Not everything you read on the internet is true," the department said in a Facebook post on Tuesday. "Many of you saw a post last night about an officer-involved shooting. Most importantly: No shots were fired, and no one was injured! However, there were two short police pursuits that ended in two arrests."
The two incidents happened in the same area of town around the same time in the early hours of Feb. 25.
The first happened on the 1400 block of Craddock Ave. when a patrol car stopped a gray 2016 Buick Enclave. Police said the driver, 20-year-old Aubrianna Alvarez, initially stopped but then reversed and backed into the patrol car. She then fled, police said.
Alvarez eventually stopped a second time at 1701 Old RR 12 and officers conducted a high-risk stop, during which police said she refused to exit the vehicle. Officers then breached her window and removed her from the vehicle.
She was booked in the Hays County Jail under charges of reckless driving, evading with a vehicle, assault on a public servant, resisting arrest and possession of marijuana. As of Tuesday, police said she remains in jail.

Officials said the second incident happened around 12:15 a.m. on the 1740 block of Old RR 12 at the Edge Apartments. Patrol officers stopped a 2008 silver Infiniti G35 driven by 19-year-old Elijah Montez, who reportedly then fled the scene.
During the brief pursuit, police said Montez drove over sidewalks and through the grass behind the complex, striking a raised sidewalk.
“At that point, the driver fled on foot,” SMPD Interim Chief Bob Klett said. “He was then tased and quickly arrested by officers.”
Montez was booked in the Hays County Jail under charges of evading with a vehicle, evading, possession of marijuana and reckless driving. As of Tuesday, police said he too remains in jail.
