Suspect in stabbing near the ARCH in Austin identified

Police arrested the man suspected of stabbing someone near the ARCH on Monday.

AUSTIN, Texas — Around 7:15 p.m. on Monday, police reported they were responding to 501 East Seventh Street. There, a male victim was found with a stab wound. He was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center.

After viewing cameras in the area of the stabbing, which was near the ARCH, police identified Darnel Andre Esco, 30, as the alleged suspect.

Police stated Esco is allegedly seen on camera crossing the street and walking up behind the victim in an aggressive manner.

Esco gets so close to the victim that the victim is seen on the cameras moving his upper torso and head backwards to create space from Esco, according to police.

Esco is then allegedly seen jabbing the victim with his right hand and is pushed to the ground by the victim, said police.

After police visited with the victim at the hospital, they found his statement matched with what they saw in surveillance video and it was found the victim was allegedly stabbed by Esco twice to the left side of his rib cage, according to police.

Police stated Esco was arrested approximately four hours after the stabbing and his being held on a $25,000 bond.
