Austin police: Roommate arrested in teen's stabbing death

Police said a relative found the person's body inside of a home.

AUSTIN, Texas — A 20-year-old man has been arrested after police said he got into an altercation with his 17-year-old roommate before the teen died from stab wounds early on the morning of March 26, the Austin Police Department said.

The alleged stabbing happened near the East St. John's neighborhood on Duval Street around 2:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

Police said a relative found the person's body inside of a home. When first responders arrived, they found Julio Enrique Saqui Tzalam, 17, on the ground. First responders tried to save his life, but he died at 2:44 a.m.

The teen's roommate, 20-year-old Marvin Bulum Pop, was arrested after officers learned he had "been involved in an altercation" with Saqui Tzalam. Police don't know what led to the altercation. 

Bulum Pop faces murder charges, police said.
