AUSTIN, Texas — Nonprofit United Way for Greater Austin has made a plea to the public for donations to help its childcare centers operating as the coronavirus outbreak spreads.
The centers are operating in limited capacity to help the children of parents who work in essential roles like health care and emergency services.
In order to operate, the childcare centers must comply with new City of Austin and Austin Public Health guidelines regarding testing, temperature-taking and sanitizing.
“As soon as possible, the centers are in need of no-touch thermometers, hand soap, sanitizer, toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning supplies, dish soap, wipes, Lysol spray and bleach,” said Jennifer Moran with United Way for Greater Austin.
Moran said the organization has reached out to Austin Public Health for help with these needs as well.
Members of the public who wish to donate can help by purchasing items through the organization’s Amazon wish list. People are asked to have the items delivered to the address that defaults in the wish list – 5202 Turnabout Lane, Austin, TX, 78731.
New licensing regulations require childcare providers to screen children for temperatures before they come in the doors, as well as increase sanitizing efforts.
United Way said it is working on a more comprehensive response to community needs for the future.
