Nonprofit encouraging Austin millennials to volunteer more

"Oftentimes they don't know where to start."

AUSTIN, Texas — A group of more than 60 strangers gathered with shovels in hand outside of Overton Elementary in East Austin on Saturday morning.

Founder of Community Bucket ATX Ian Grossman said the purpose of the group is to get young people connected while making a difference in Austin.

"We find that the millennial age group, they want to volunteer but oftentimes they don't know where to start so they just don't do it," said Grossman.

Volunteers showed up on Saturday morning at the Colony District Park outside of Overton Elementary to help mulch trees.

"We are also working with the Austin Parks Foundation. They planted trees here a few years ago and often times parks this far from downtown can get neglected," said Grossman.
