List: Some of the Austin-area companies that have cut jobs amid the coronavirus pandemic

AUSTIN, Texas — As the world adjusts to stop the spread of the coronavirus, thousands have been laid off in the Austin area.

Experts said consumer activity (retail and personal services) and hospitality are the two sectors hit first and hardest by the virus. And the City of Austin is seeing the impacts strongest in sales, lodging and mixed beverage taxes.

These are some of the major layoffs in the Austin area, including companies that have sent WARN letters to the Texas Workforce Commission, companies that have confirmed layoffs to KVUE and to our partners at The Statesman.

Layoffs in Central Texas after the coronavirus outbreak:

Most employees who are laid off or furloughed are eligible for unemployment insurance through the Texas Workforce Commission, plus extra assistance from the federal CARES Act.
