Ford brings self-driving cars to Austin

The company will be expanding its testing for the vehicles to push towards a commercial launch.

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin will become the third city for Ford to test its self-driving cars.

Ford Motor Company announced on Wednesday it is hoping to bring more transportation solutions to the growing city.

"We are the home to technology, the incubator of innovation to our state," said Mayor Steve Adler.

Ford said that for every year over the past eight years, Austin has been the fastest-growing metro region in the U.S., according to the U.S. Census Bureau

The company will be expanding its testing for the vehicles with Argo AI to push towards a commercial launch.

Argo AI is a technology platform company that works with automakers like Ford and Volkswagen produce a fully integrated self-driving vehicle that is safe and dependable.

Ford said its partnership with the City of Austin will allow the city to become more accessible, with features like ridesharing and more efficient "goods delivery."
