Food trailer park coming to The Domain

For now it's a pilot program that kicks off May 31. Seven food trailers will set up shop Fridays through Sundays on a month-to-month basis.

AUSTIN, Texas — The food truck culture is spreading to North Austin. ATX Food Truck Festival has joined with The Domain to have food trailers roll into one of its parking lots every weekend starting May 31.

This is a pilot program for now, and the organizers say they expect it to last through December.

Seven trailers will set up shop on one section of the parking lot in between Macy's and Dick's Sporting Goods. Specifically, it's the section of the parking lot that's to the left of Shake Shack off Domain Drive.

During the week (Monday to Thursday), that section of the parking lot will be empty of any food trailers -- so you can still park in the section where they'll be.

The organizers also say turf will be laid down, along with benches and covered areas. It's also dog-friendly.

The trailers will operate a month-to-month basis, meaning different food trucks will have a shot at selling their food each month. To apply for booking a spot, click this link. The organizers also say you can reach out to their Facebook page or email them at atxfoodtruckfest@gmail.com.

"Austin's known for live music. But let's be honest, if Austin didn't have that title, it'd be a food truck capital for sure," said David Poku, a co-owner of ATX Food Truck Festival. "There will be that atmosphere, or come chill, eat, drink, have fun."

The owners also say this project is synonymous with the natural Austin atmosphere and provides not only an opportunity for business, but for people to try new cultures.

"You pull up, you park and you try one," said Glenn Williams, a co-owner of ATX Food Truck Festival. "It's good to get something that's going to be more unique."

One of the trailers that already has a spot booked is Three B's Tacos.

"It [food trucks] kind of helps out with the volume of traffic, and they want to eat real quick and get out and get on their way," said Brock Miller, owner of Three B's Tacos. "People like to have different food and there's a lot of different people here."
