KVUE, Statesman host public forum about growth, preservation in Texas Hill Country

A free public forum was held on Monday, Oct. 7.

AUSTIN, Texas — A free and public forum hosted by KVUE and the Austin American-Statesman was held on Oct. 7, exploring the battleground between growth and preservation in the treasured Texas Hill Country.

Since 2012, the number of registered quarries, rock mining operations and aggregate plants in Texas has increased by 1,690%.

A six-month KVUE/Austin American-Statesman investigation, part of the Boomtown 2040 series, found the industry’s growth has far outpaced state regulatory oversight – and nearby residents are paying the price.

The full investigation can be found online.

KVUE and Austin American-Statesman reporter Tony Plohetski was on the distinguished panel. The public had a chance to ask questions, moderated by KVUE's Terri Gruca.
