Hutto city leaders say new data center development will bring hundreds of jobs

City leaders are calling it a "mega project."

HUTTO, Texas — A major development is coming to Williamson County and the City of Hutto that will bring hundreds of jobs.

City leaders are calling it a "mega project."

"We were probably 1,500 people in the year 2000. We are 40,000 some odd today," said Bob Farley, Hutto's economic development director.

As more people move to the Austin suburb, big business developments are coming too.

Farley said the site will include data centers and an industrial park, with construction on the data center to begin first. A company named Skybox is the developer.

"I'd say probably 8-10 individual operating companies," he said.

Farley reported that this could bring 200-400 jobs, not including construction workers. Construction is slated to begin this summer.

The part of the project, the industrial park from developer Titan Industries, is bringing even more jobs.

"You might have as many as 30 companies," said Farley.

Local businesses, like The General Store that has been a family-run business for more than 30 years, have seen the area grow.

"It's fun to see the town coming to life and more vibrant with more activity," said store employee Kim Kubala.

Some, like her, think more development is great.

"It brings in new people, new customers, it creates an excitement in the town," said Kubala.

Excitement for a city that's changing, growing and looking ahead.

Also on Thursday, Hutto city leaders made another exciting announcement: The city's first movie theater is also on its way not far from the same development.
