AUSTIN, Texas — H-E-B is pushing back renovations on its store on South Congress and Oltorf Street in Austin.
According to H-E-B, construction on the store at 2400 S. Congress Ave. has been pushed back for "weeks or even months." That means the current H-E-B at that location will stay open longer and the opening of the temporary store in the Twin Oaks Shopping Center is also delayed.
The new store was set to open in 2022, but a spokesperson told KVUE that crews need more time to finalize the store's design.

"We are incredibly excited for what the future holds for this iconic South Congress H-E-B and the new store we are bringing to our longtime and loyal customers," the spokesperson said.
H-E-B officials said this is the company's most complex project yet.
The South Congress location is the longest-standing H-E-B in Austin. The store first opened in 1957 and has undergone dozens of renovations, increasing its size from the original 25,000 square feet to the present-day 69,000 square feet. The new planned renovations were set to take the location to 100,000 square feet, including underground parking, murals from local artists and H-E-B’s first-ever beer garden.
