Keep Austin Local: Genuine Joe Coffee House

Get a cup of joe while also supporting local!

AUSTIN, Texas — Central Texans have seen many businesses shutting down because of the COVID-19 pandemic. KVUE wants to help "Keep Austin local" by highlighting small businesses that might need a little help.

On Wednesday, KVUE stopped by Genuine Joe Coffee House. They’ve been in business for 15 years and were founded by David Swainston and Victor Levi to provide a community meeting space in the Crestview neighborhood.

The owner, Josh Brown, who has worked at the coffee house for 11 years, said the 2020 pandemic has been a real challenge, especially with revenue dropping but bills remaining constant.

Brown said they’re still around because of the loyalty of the community and the creativity and tenacity of their staff.

Before the pandemic, Genuine Joe Coffee House welcomed live music and comedy shows.

Currently, the inside of the coffee house is closed. They take orders outside, and guests are welcome to sit on the patio. With the inside closed, it has allowed the staff to spruce up the space, painting the walls and adding more art.

Genuine Joe Coffee house is located at 2001 W. Anderson Lane.
