Angels crown Austin senior mother 'Queen for the day'

Local angels on assignment gave one Austin senior the royal treatment in light of Mother's Day.

AUSTIN – In honor of Mother's Day weekend, an Austin senior was given royal treatment, and even dubbed queen for the day.

Two local angels with in home care company Visiting Angels surprised Rosie Vasquez at her East Austin home on Saturday. They walked in with a basket in hand and crowned her queen for the day.

"Our seniors are special to us every day, so doing just one thing and several things we can do throughout the year for our seniors is really important to us to honor them,” said Melanie French with Visiting Angels.

The basket full of royal goodies included a mask, makeup, and other treats.

“I think I like everything,” said Vasquez.

The visit was all a part of an effort to show her how much the Visiting Angels care this Mother's Day weekend.

"I know it's a special time for her just being honored the way she was honored today, and I think Visiting Angels did a fantastic job of honoring her and she deserves it, she's been a wonderful mom,” said Rebecca Woodhall, Vasquez’s daughter.

Woodhall said her mother loves for her children to come together. And on this special day, the mother of three got just that, as she was surrounded by family.

“It's a day of happiness that you have your mother, you know that you still have her,” said Vasquez.

At 83 years old, Vasquez has experienced many Mother's Days, but none quite like this one, she said.

“This is the best mother's day I’ve ever had,” said Vasquez.

French said Visiting Angels hopes to do something similar for fathers when Father's Day rolls around.
