One thing we all have in common is that at some point during the year we will celebrate a birthday, but a sad reality is that not all kids get the chance to have a proper birthday party. Suzanne Gladden of Round Rock has made it her mission to help as many kids as possible get the birthday party they deserve.
“Giving my child a beautiful birthday party is a sentiment to me saying how much I love you,” Gladden said. “The thought of a child not having one is heartbreaking.”
Gladden founded Happy Birthdays, and the nonprofit provides birthday boxes to kids in more than 30 Central Texas organizations. Volunteers include the Round Rock Police Department, RRPD Chief Allen Banks, the Williamson County Sheriff's Office, various high school organizations and members of the community.
“On a whim I donated a birthday party for every child for one year,” Gladden said. “I had to start getting family and friends and neighbors involved, in one month we had 100 volunteers and 100 birthday parties.”
The volunteers don't attend the parties, they know how grateful the families who benefit are. Gladden said she hopes to grow Happy Birthdays in the future to include more Texas cities. TAP OR CLICK HERE to donate or volunteer to Happy Birthdays.
