AUSTIN, Texas — If you're looking for something to watch with the whole family, local movie theaters are ready to help – even though you can't settle into their cushioned seats right now.
Like Alamo Drafthouse, Violet Crown Cinema and the Austin Film Society, The Paramount Theatre is offering a virtual alternative to the movie-going experience. Each week, the theater reveals a list of double features – and where to stream them.
The curated "Paramount Quaranscreen Film Series" lists are published every Friday by Film Programmer Stephen Jannise – the man behind the theater's popular "Summer Classic Film Series."
"I guess we're all trying to figure out, you know, how to make the most of this crazy situation and how to keep doing what we love. And this is certainly been like a great outlet for me," Jannise said. "I've really loved like, writing all these lists up and kind of rethinking, revisiting these movies and trying to figure out like, how I can talk about them and way that makes people really excited to see them."
The themes the Paramount has had so far include family movies, hidden gems and music films. And that's not all: Each week, the theater includes a local restaurant to order from to go along with the movie's theme – often with a coupon code.
