Exploring Upstairs Circus: Austin's craft factory for adults

Upstairs Circus is a place to make creations and enjoy libations.

AUSTIN, Texas — Create a craft while drinking craft cocktails – or wet your whistle with wine while working with wood. Upstairs Circus is the mix between a DIY workshop and a bar.

Here’s how it works:

You can make a reservation online. Then you look through the project menu to select your creation. The project menu features practical items that you make, including jewelry, home décor, leather goods and more.

“The amazing thing about it is that most of these items are practical, so you’re going to walk out of here with the joy of knowing you could walk out with a piece of jewelry you're actually going to wear, and walk home with a painting or a butcher board that you’re going to be able to use,” says Damian Medrano, a creative assistant for Upstairs Circus.

Once you pick your project, you then get the materials needed and a step-by-step tutorial. If you need help, one of the creative assistants will be there for you.

Upstairs Circus offers popcorn, but you can bring your own snacks also. You don’t have to be 21 and over to join in on the fun, but parental advisory is recommended because of the tools at the table.

All of the projects are $39 before tax and gratuity, but there are happy hours Tuesday to Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., where you can save $10 on select projects.

Upstairs Circus is located at 234 W. Second St. in Austin.
