Grab your broomsticks! US Quidditch Cup happening in Round Rock this weekend

The Harry Potter-inspired sport is a cross between rugby, dodge ball and capture the flag.

ROUND ROCK, Texas — Get your broomsticks ready!

Wizards and witches will gather for the 2019 U.S. Quidditch Cup Saturday in Round Rock. And yes, muggles will be invited.

The Harry Potter-inspired sport is a cross between rugby, dodge ball and capture the flag.

More than 80 quidditch teams from around the country are expected to compete, including 60 collegiate teams and 24 community teams. The 1,700 athletes competing are required to have a broom between their legs at all times.

The defending champions are Texas Cavalry in the community division and the University of Rochester Thestrals int he collegiate division.

The first match will begin at 9 a.m. at the Round Rock Multi-purpose Center. The center is located at 2001 N. Kenney Fort Blvd.
